안녕하세요. 작곡가 이충민입니다. 한국예술종합학교 작곡과 재학중이고 현재는 군대에서 복무중입니다.

당선 소감

1. 당선 소감
이번 레모네이션에 당선된 소감이 어떠신가요?
생각지도 못하게 당선되어서 너무 놀랐습니다. 군대에서 컴퓨터도 건반도 없이 태블릿만 가지고 쓴 음악이라 다른 지원작들에 비해 구성이 심플해서 안되겠거니 했는데, 당일날 갑자기 전화를 주셔서 소리 질렀던 기억이 있습니다.

2. 당선 음악 작업 과정
레모네이션 음악을 작업하면서, 가장 신경 쓴 부분이 있다면 어떤 부분이었나요?
의뢰자님이 레퍼런스를 통해서 저한테 설명하고 싶은게 무엇인지에 집중하였습니다.
최대한 의도를 파악해 레퍼런스 구성을 따라가며 마지막에 저의 취향이나 개성을 살짝씩 추가하는 방식으로 진행하였습니다.

3. 레몬사운드와의 작업 과정
레모네이션 당선 후 최종 완성까지 레몬사운드와 함께했을 때 가장 인상깊었던 순간이 있다면 어떤 점일까요?
감독님과의 첫 대면 때인 것 같습니다. 회의 중재를 훌륭하게 해주셔서 내편이 생긴듯 하여 부담이 굉장히 줄었습니다.

음악 세계

1. 음악 시작 계기
아티스트님이 음악을 시작한 계기는 무엇인가요? 음악을 계속해야겠다고 결심한 계기가 있다면 궁금합니다.
계기는 특별히 없고 어릴때부터 창작을 늘 좋아했던거 같습니다. 이번처럼 곡이 당선되거나, 곡을 발표하며 사람들의 관심을 받을 때 음악을 계속 해야겠다는 결심을 하곤 합니다.

2. 작곡 과정
음악을 작곡할 때 어디에서 영감을 받아 어떻게 작업을 시작하시나요? (그림을 그리거나 긴 산책을 하는 등)
다른 음악가들의 음악을 듣거나, 가만히 누워서 영감이 올때까지 기다립니다. 작업 스타일이 굉장히 정적인 편입니다.

3. 음악 스타일
음악을 작곡할 때 아티스트님만의 음악적 스타일이 있다면 어떤 것인가요?
뭐든 당연하게 보지 않으려고 비틀려고 노력하는 편입니다. 그러다보면 좀 더 독창적인 발상을 떠올릴 때가 있습니다.

4. 좋아하는 작품
아티스트님의 작품 세계에 특히 영향을 준 예술작품 (영화, 음악, 애니메이션, 그림 등) 이나 작가가 있다면 어떤 것일까요? 음악이 아닌 다른 것이 영감을 주는 경우가 있나요?
영화 위플래쉬 정말 인상깊게 보고 영향을 받은 것 같습니다.

5. 인상 깊었던 순간
지난 음악 인생을 되돌아봤을 때, 지금 가장 기억에 남는 순간이 있다면 어떤 순간일까요?
진심으로 레몬사운드 당선 때 입니다. 작곡가로서 제 곡이 공식적으로 어딘가 쓰인다는 경험이 처음이라 의미 있었습니다.

6. 음악가로서의 삶
음악가로서 살아갈 때 가장 어려운 부분은 무엇이라고 생각하시나요?
상업성과 예술성의 밸런스인 것 같습니다. 두 단어가 반의어가 아님에도 늘 대척점에 있는 듯 음악가를 괴롭히는 잣대인 것 같습니다.

7. 앞으로의 목표
음악가로서 앞으로의 목표가 있다면 어떤 것인가요?
늘 재미있게 음악하고 싶습니다.

함께 음악 인생을 살아가고 있는 동료 음악가들에게 하고 싶은 말이 있다면 말해 주세요.

Winner Introduction

Could you introduce yourself briefly?
Hello, I'm composer Choong Min Lee. I'm studying composition at the Korea National University of Arts, and currently serving my military duty.

1. How do you feel about winning?
What were your thoughts upon being selected as a winner in this Lemonation?
I was completely surprised to win! Since I created the piece with just a tablet in the military, without a computer or keyboard, I thought simple structure my music wouldn’t stand out compared to other entries. But I remember getting a call on the announcement day and shouting in surprise.

2. Creative Process
What was the main aspect you focused on while creating your Lemonation piece?
I focused on understanding what vision the client wanted to share through the references they provided. I tried my best to interpret their intention by following the structure of the references, then subtly added my own preferences and unique touches at the end.

3. Working with Lemon Sound
Was there a memorable moment during the working process with Lemon Sound?
I think my first meeting with the director was memorable. Lemon Sound handled the meeting exceptionally well, and I felt like I had someone on my side, which eased a lot of my stress.

Artistic Vision

1. Starting in Music
What first inspired you to start in music, and was there a moment when you knew you wanted to pursue it professionally?
I don’t have a specific reason for getting into music - I've just always enjoyed creating things since I was young. Winning a competition or releasing music and seeing people’s interest always reaffirms my decision to continue in music.

2. Composition Process
When you compose, where do you typically find inspiration, and how do you begin the process? (For example, sketching ideas or taking long walks.)
I either listen to other musicians’ work or lie down and wait for inspiration to strike. My approach to creating is very still and contemplative.

3. Musical Style
Do you have a distinct musical style that you identify as your own?
I try not to take anything for granted and work on twisting ideas to see things out of box. Doing this sometimes leads to more original ideas.

4. Favorite Influences
Are there any specific works of art - movies, music, animation, paintings, etc. - or creators that have particularly influenced your artistic vision? Are there any non-musical sources that inspire you?
The movie "Whiplash" left a strong impression on me and has influenced me a lot.

5. Unforgettable Moments
Reflecting on your musical journey, is there a particular moment that stands out as especially memorable?
The moment my piece was selected by Lemon Sound is one I'll never forget. It was the first time my music was officially used for other content, and that meant a lot to me as a composer.

6. Challenges as a Musician
What do you find most challenging about being a musician?
Finding a balance between commercial viability and artistic expression is a constant challenge. Though the two concepts aren't opposites, they always seem to be in conflict, creating a tension that weighs on musicians.

7. Future Goals
What are your goals moving forward in your music career?
I want to keep having fun with music.
