안녕하세요 ! 영상음악을 기반으로 뮤지컬음악이나 알앤비 음악 만들고있는 Mori 라고합니다.

당선 소감

1. 당선 소감
이번 레모네이션에 당선된 소감이 어떠신가요?
너무 반가운 소식이 아닐 수 없었습니다! 다른 것들을 배제하고 오롯이 원했던 작품에 참여한다는 부분에서 가장 기뻤습니다.

2. 당선 음악 작업 과정
레모네이션 음악을 작업하면서, 가장 신경 쓴 부분이 있다면 어떤 부분이었나요?
아무래도 동양풍의 분위기를 내줄 수 있는 멜로디와 사운드를 가장 신경썼던 것 같습니다.
동양(몽골, 일본, 중국)느낌의 세계관이라는 확실한 방향이 있으셔서 악기 선택에도 조금 신중해졌구요. 서양악기 구성에서도 동양적인 분위기로 풀어내고자 하는 생각도 많았습니다.

3. 레몬사운드와의 작업 과정
레모네이션 당선 후 최종 완성까지 레몬사운드와 함께했을 때 가장 인상깊었던 순간이 있다면 어떤 점일까요?
이 '양의 유언'이라는 작품이 레모네이션에 업로드된 뒤 바로 곡을 쓰기 시작할 만큼 너무 매력적인 작품이라고 생각해서 평소보다 긴 시간동안 작업 했었는데, 마무리가 된 뒤 처음으로 영상과 같이 보았을때가 가장 인상깊었던 것 같습니다.

음악 세계

1. 음악 시작 계기
아티스트님이 음악을 시작한 계기는 무엇인가요? 음악을 계속해야겠다고 결심한 계기가 있다면 궁금합니다.
조금 부끄럽지만 초등학교시절 여러 BGM들을 핸드폰에 저장해두고 그때그때 제게 놓인 환경에 맞는 BGM을 듣는걸 너무 좋아했는데요!
중학교시절 기타를 배우고 슬슬 입시를 봐야하는 나이가 되어 자연스럽게 기타로 음악을 시작했다가, 제가 관심이 정말 많았던 작곡이 제게 좀 더 맞다고 판단하여 대학을 진학하게 된 것이 계기가 될 것 같습니다.
음악을 계속 해야겠다는 결심은 제가 좋아하는 음악을 들을 때마다 생각하게 되는 계기인 것 같아요.

2. 작곡 과정
음악을 작곡할 때 어디에서 영감을 받아 어떻게 작업을 시작하시나요? (그림을 그리거나 긴 산책을 하는 등)
물론 레퍼런스로 들려 주시는 음악이 가장 중요한 부분인 것 같지만
음악에서 배경이되는 인물 또는 상황의 감정을 상상하는 것이 아무래도 가장 크게 도움을 주는 것 같습니다
그래서 작업하기 전에 최대한 그 감정들을 저와 대입해 생각해보는 편입니다!

3. 음악 스타일
음악을 작곡할 때 아티스트님만의 음악적 스타일이 있다면 어떤 것인가요?
항상 접근할때 멜로디보다 화성에 집중하는 편이라 그 과정에서 시간이 오래 걸리는데요!
감정이라던가 장면에 화성을 만들 때 오묘한 분위기를 항상 조금씩 곁들이려고 하고 있습니다.

4. 좋아하는 작품
아티스트님의 작품 세계에 특히 영향을 준 예술작품 (영화, 음악, 애니메이션, 그림 등) 이나 작가가 있다면 어떤 것일까요? 음악이 아닌 다른 것이 영감을 주는 경우가 있나요?
드래곤 길들이기와 존파월이 많은 영향을 주었습니다. 전통악기를 너무 매력적으로 다루시는데 찰떡같이 녹아드는!! 그 부분에 받은 충격이 굉장히 컸습니다! 이외에도 영향을 준 작품들이 많지만, 저는 여러 사람들과 하는 대화들에서 가장 큰 성장이 오는 것 같습니다.
음악과 관련이 없는 것 같아도 많은 얘기들을 듣고 혼자 생각해 보는 것도 음악을 바라보고 만드는 능력을 넓혀 준다고 느꼈습니다.

5. 인상 깊었던 순간
지난 음악 인생을 되돌아봤을 때, 지금 가장 기억에 남는 순간이 있다면 어떤 순간일까요?
제 음악에 제가 위로 되었던 순간인 것 같습니다. 학교 과제로 아픈 청춘에 관한 노래를 만든 적이 있는데, 아직 가끔 그 노래에 위로 받고는 하네요.

6. 음악가로서의 삶
음악가로서 살아갈 때 가장 어려운 부분은 무엇이라고 생각하시나요?
사람 성향마다 다르겠지만 저는 타협점을 찾는것이 가장 힘든 것 같습니다.
어느 정도 포기해야 얻을 수 있는 것이 있고, 포기하지 않았을때 오는 행복도 있겠지만
둘다 만족스럽게 채워나아가는것, 창작자로서 나의 음악적 능력을 유지하는 것.
제겐 아직까지 이 부분이 가장 어렵네요.

7. 앞으로의 목표
음악가로서 앞으로의 목표가 있다면 어떤 것인가요?
제 머릿속에 있는 음악들을 전부 구현할 수 있는 환경이 만들어지고, 그걸 대중들에게 설득시킬 수 있게 되는 것이 최종적인 목표입니다!

함께 음악 인생을 살아가고 있는 동료 음악가들에게 하고 싶은 말이 있다면 말해 주세요.

Winner Introduction

Could you introduce yourself briefly?
Hello! I’m Mori, a composer focused on film music, musical scores, and R&B.

1. How do you feel about winning?
What were your thoughts upon being selected as a winner in this Lemonation?
Hearing the news was incredibly exciting! What thrilled me most was the chance to work on a project I’d truly wanted, without any compromises.

2. Creative Process
What was the main aspect you focused on while creating your Lemonation piece?
I focused heavily on creating melodies and sounds that could convey an East Asian ambiance. Since the project had a clear vision of an Eastern-inspired world (Mongolian, Japanese, and Chinese influences), I chose the instruments carefully and gave a lot of thought to how I could express an Eastern atmosphere, even using Western instruments.

3. Working with Lemon Sound
Was there a memorable moment during the working process with Lemon Sound?
I was so captivated by the project, 'The Goat's Will', that I started composing for it right after it was uploaded to Lemonation. I worked on it longer than usual, and seeing the final version paired with the visuals for the first time was especially memorable.

Artistic Vision

1. Starting in Music
What first inspired you to start in music, and was there a moment when you knew you wanted to pursue it professionally?
It’s a bit embarrassing, but as a child, I used to save various BGMs on my phone and listen to them to match the mood of my surroundings. In middle school, I started learning guitar and naturally leaned into music, eventually realizing that composition, which I was deeply interested in, suited me best. That’s what led me to study it in college. Every time I listen to music I love, it reaffirms my decision to keep pursuing it.

2. Composition Process
When you compose, where do you typically find inspiration, and how do you begin the process? (For example, sketching ideas or taking long walks.)
While temp music is crucial, I find the biggest inspiration in imagining the emotions of the characters or situations in the story. Before starting a piece, I try to immerse myself in those emotions and picture how they’d feel if they were my own.

3. Musical Style
Do you have a distinct musical style that you identify as your own?
I usually concentrate on harmony more than melody, which can take extra time. I also aim to add subtle nuances to the harmonies to evoke complex emotions within each scene.

4. Favorite Influences
Are there any specific works of art - movies, music, animation, paintings, etc. - or creators that have particularly influenced your artistic vision? Are there any non-musical sources that inspire you?
Composer John Powell and his piece 'How to Train Your Dragon' have been major influences to my musical journey. His use of traditional instruments is so powerful and seamlessly integrated into the soundtrack, which had a big impact on me! While there are many other works that inspire me, I feel I grow most from conversations with others. Even non music related discussions often help me expand my perspective and enhance my creative approach.

5. Unforgettable Moments
Reflecting on your musical journey, is there a particular moment that stands out as especially memorable?
It was a moment when I felt comforted by my own music. I once wrote a song about the struggles of youth for a school project, and I still find solace in that piece from time to time.

6. Challenges as a Musician
What do you find most challenging about being a musician?
It’s probably different for everyone, but for me, finding a balance is the hardest part. Sometimes you have to make sacrifices to gain something, and while holding on to certain things brings happiness, it’s challenging to balance both while maintaining my musical integrity as a creator.

7. Future Goals
What are your goals moving forward in your music career?
My ultimate goal is to have the environment and skills to fully bring the music in my mind to life and present it in a way that resonates with a broader audience.

8. Message to Fellow Composers
Is there anything you would like to share with fellow musicians on a similar journey?
Since we chose this path, let’s see it through to the end!
